The best holiday apps for your break
So your holiday is booked and fast approaching and your list of ‘to dos’ is growing. Besides the essentials, what do you need to make the most of your break? Here's where technology can help!

Countdown+
What better way to start getting excited for your holiday than by checking off the days until you can set your out of office and get on the road? Set your countdown to tell you just how many more months/weeks/days until you’re relaxing by the pool or living it up in the clubhouse! Jazz up the countdown with the option to add an image, set a title and change the colour scheme. This app doesn’t limit you to just one countdown, you can create as many as you’d like, so be sure to pencil in all of those important dates that you don’t want to forget!

Packing pro
Packing for yourself is hard, but with kids in tow, its most likely one of the most stressful events leading up to your holiday. Packing Pro helps you get organised and make packing for your travels a breeze. Log the number of days you’ll be away, the expected weather, planned activities and even the facilities available while you're there! The app will then create a list of the necessities, which you can review and edit. You can then check these off the list as you pack, and set reminders for important travel essentials! Quite literally making you, a packing pro.
The app costs £2.99 to download but will save you a lot of time and stress!
BBC weather
To assist with your packing and preparation for your daily activities, its good practice to get an idea of the weather while you’re away (especially when holidaying in the UK!). The no-frills BBC weather app offers the week summary instantly. Use the search tool to find your holiday location, which can then be saved on your locations list – making the content more readily available next time! This will provide an overview of the next seven days, hour by hour. The perfect tool to use alongside your holiday prep and packing.

TripAdvisor
Known and loved by many, TripAdvisor has become an essential tool in our quest to enjoy all things travel. Whether you’re looking to hear feedback from other travellers, find a selection of local attractions, or have your questions answered, this is the place to go. Featuring group or solo travellers own images, reviews and scores for value, location, cleanliness and service, you have access to a great range of information right at your fingertips – ensuring the best days out while you’re away. Easy to navigate and full of great advice that can save you time, money and inconvenience. Several of our holiday parks have Tripadvisor Excellence Awards so be sure to check them out.

Google Maps
Travelling can often involve the worry of a wrong turn or traffic jam. The Google Maps app can give you step by step directions, including traffic updates and road works. Data or network coverage worries no longer need to be a worry, as you can download your route to use at any time. The app can even alert you when you should leave to arrive on time (taking traffic and road conditions into account!). Once you start your route, the map performs like your standard satnav giving you turn-by-turn directions and alerting you of hazards, speed limits and cameras, all helping you reach your destination safely with ease.

Mario Kart Tour
We couldn’t not include the new Mario Kart app, sure to drum up a bit of nostalgia. Not only for kids, this app has been a hit with any fan of classic arcade games. A play off the previous race game exclusively available to Nintendo devices, the long loved game has a newly launched mobile version. Perfect for keeping the kids (or yourself) entertained on long journeys!

Pokémon Go
Though the buzz around the app has calmed down a bit over recent years, thousands of people still love and enjoy Pokemon Go. A great interactive app for kids, teens and adults to enjoy. As you travel around the real world you can watch Pokemon characters appear on the game map; the aim is to collect as many different characters as you can. Perfect for while you’re on the move and discovering new locations (and characters!).

Heads up!
A modern family favourite, guaranteed to get the whole group laughing. Guess the word written on your card from clues given by the rest of the party. The app comes with a hilarious playback feature where you can watch a recording of your family and friends frantically trying to act out anything from movies, songs, sports etc. This is a great opportunity to encourage family bonding time.

What better way to snap and share your favourite holiday memories than on Instagram? Perfect to use before, during and even after your break. Stay in contact with your loved ones while on your trip or keep on top of those interests. Facebook is a great app to keep up to date with your friends and family, get recommendations for things to do in the area or just share what you’re up to. Check in to your location, upload your favourite snapshots or use the Facebook messenger app to create group chats (perfect for arranging your family holiday).
