Holidays Abroad vs. UK Staycations: What to Do with Your Summer

The idea of UK staycations has grown in popularity in recent years. Whereas Brits once jumped at the chance to visit Europe or somewhere further afield, more of us are realising the potential that the UK holds for a holiday.

Of course, there are some necessary factors to consider when weighing up holidays abroad vs. UK staycations. In this article, we’ll look at why a staycation is better and suggest some ideas for family holidays.

Why is a UK Staycation Better?

Granted, the UK might not have the same intense summer weather as somewhere like Spain or France, but it can still get pretty warm. And if beaches and relaxing are your thing, the UK could very well be a prime holiday destination.

1. Quicker and Easier

There’s no denying that a UK staycation is going to be quicker and easier than a trip abroad. After all, if you’re only travelling a few hundred miles rather than a few thousand, how could it not be?

Then you’ve got to think about packing, organising the kids, and getting to your destination - all this is pretty straightforward when you stay in the UK.

2. Saving Money

This is a big one at the moment. You can organise a pretty cheap summer holiday in the UK, even if you choose to do something fancy. For example, a holiday abroad – including flights and hotel – could set you back a few thousand pounds. Staying in the UK, by contrast, could cost half as much.

Of course, it all depends on where you choose to stay. Our holiday parks offer great value for money in some incredible locations across the UK, including Cornwall, Scotland, Hampshire, and more. Better yet, each park is suitable for the whole family (and pets!).

3. It’s the Eco-option

Granted, the environment might not be top of your list when organising family holidays. But an aeroplane is a pretty energy-intensive mode of travel. Jumping in your car will always be a more eco-friendly option for a family holiday – bonus points if you drive electric!

4. Airport Struggles

The airport can be a nightmare at the best of times, particularly if you’re wrangling kids and juggling passports, so it’s understandable that you might want to avoid them at all costs.

Similarly, a UK staycation means no luggage allowance (other than what you can cram in your car, of course).

5. Convenience

There are many ways that staycations in the UK are a more convenient option. First, you don’t have to worry about passports and currency exchanges. Also, you don’t have to try learning another language or carrying a dictionary around with you all the time!

But perhaps one of the most important is that you don’t need to find a sitter for your pets. If you stay at a Park Holidays park, you’re welcome to bring your pet. All our sites are dog-friendly and designed to accommodate them as much as you.

6. Amazing Food and Drink

The UK is often undersold as a foodie destination. But, thanks to our multiculturalism and extensive sea borders, we actually have some pretty amazing food. So, whether you fancy a Greek mezze in town or some amazing Scottish langoustines by the beach, you can find it all here!
